Matt Babb
Clinical Psychology at Cal Poly State University
My history
I have always been fascinated with the mind, both on its own and among others. Since I was a kid I have regularly organized groups, ranging from top-secret clubs in 4th grade to circus meetups at the local park, to a daily mindfulness group spanning three years. Throughout all of these endeavors, I strove to bring strangers together with a common purpose – living meaningfully.
My approach
Over the last 12 years, I have been trained in cognitive behavioral therapy, hypnotherapy, coaching, yoga and breathwork, and conflict mediation. I have seen each of these modalities work brilliantly with clients, with loved ones, and within myself. These experiences have taught me the paramount importance of three things when it comes to well-being: (1) The quality of our focus, (2) our thoughts and behaviors, and (3) our interpersonal relationships. In my work, I take an approach that seeks to emphasize all three, undergirded by compassion and aimed squarely at the truth. This is precisely what you will get in a group with me.
Current pursuits
I am currently enrolled at Cal Poly State University studying clinical psychology, after which I will pursue a PhD to become licensed in California. I am employed as a teaching assistant and a research assistant, and I am still regularly seeing clients when I can. In addition to this, I lead a weekly in-person Men’s Group. I live on the central coast of California with my girlfriend, and I spend my free time skateboarding, playing jazz guitar, and arguing with Alexander Grace on Patreon.
